I think you are absolutely right. Most people don't care about their fellow humans and we need to. Nothing will change without compassion and empathy.

I completely agree - and I'd like to know when all of this changed.

I still believe that most people love their neighbors. The tech billionaires are very invested in convincing us that we hate each other.

You're definitely right about the tech billionaires. Sowing more division between us all can only help them in their "us vs them" rhetoric.

Hi Sarah! Beautiful article. I do think wealth disparity causes a massive rift and our capitalistic/consumeristic driven society has resulted in so many losing focus over what matters. Corruption, abuse of power, personal healthcare debt, poverty, oppression and racism, intolerance and fear of otherness. Fear leads to anger. Hurt people hurt people. Trauma has lasting consequences. Unequal opportunity. Gaps in education. Lack of critical thinking.

I do believe it all begins with citizens, individuals who recognize what’s happening and choosing to make a difference in their circles and communities any way they can. Acts of kindness. Supporting causes. Denouncing acts of violence. Shutting down consumerism. Leading with compassion. I read somewhere that a 12 minute conversation with someone who is struggling can turn their despondency around and provide them with solace that someone cares.

(And thank you for the shoutout friend :)!

Everything you've said here, I completely agree with. And there are people in power who are very invested in making sure we continue to push ourselves apart. Which makes it even more important to come together in support of one another.

Absolutely love this post and couldn’t agree more. I think many people read headlines and get enraged but don’t know how to fight back or they are so overwhelmed by Trump and the deluge of bad news that they tune out. I agree that it needs to start in our communities with small acts of kindness, rather than just screaming our frustration into the echo chamber.

Thank you so much, Kendall. And yes I think maybe there was a time for the screaming but now it's time to figure out what to do to fix it and come together.
